HISTORY

Latrobe Cricket Club joined the NWTCA (now Cricket North West) in 1950 as one of the founding members.  After withdrawing from the competition in 1953, Latrobe re-joined in 1959 and has been a part of Cricket North West ever since.

The club has grown over the years and now provides the opportunity for over 100 boys/girls/men/women to play cricket, with countless more people involved with Latrobe Cricket Club in some way.  Latrobe Cricket Club now runs IN2 Cricket clinics for boys and girls aged 5-8, as well as conducting a local Primary School cricket roster.  We support the Latrobe High School cricket team, and this season we are introducing Girls Cricket.  All of this is on top of fielding Under-13, Under-15, Under-17, 2nd Grade and 1st Grade teams.

In 2008/09 Latrobe Cricket Club celebrated 50 years of consecutive membership of Cricket North West.  A small sub-committee worked extremely hard to organise a Reunion, inviting ex-players back to club to share their memories and tall stories! On the night the inaugural induction of former players into our Hall of Fame took place.

Throughout the years we have been lucky enough to have top quality players represent our club. Test players Sadiq Mohammed, Bishen Bedi, Sharesh Sharma and David Capel have played in our 1st Grade team.  Scotland's Alastair Storie and Jim Govan played with us in the 1990's.  Recently we have had young leg-spinner Marc Simonds selected in the Australian Under-19 team and pick up a Tasmanian Tigers Rookie contract.  We have produced State cricketers such as Tim Bower, Neville Jelich and Errol Harris, plus numerous underage State representatives.

Latrobe Cricket Club has been home to many legends of Cricket North West over the years, from Blair Campbell, Harold Allen and Baden Sharman, to Gary Spillane, Grant Astell and David Squibb.  Recently Paul Dickson has taken over the mantle of LCC legend, becoming the LCC's 1st Grade Games Record Holder in 2010/11.

In our years of involvement in Cricket North West Latrobe Cricket Club has had to work very hard for success in 1st Grade cricket, winning two Premierships (1973/74 and 2005/06).  However, the club has been fortunate to win multiple titles in the lower grades.  The last decade has arguably been the club's most successful, winning a 1st Grade Premiership, three 2nd Grade Premierships, and 3rd Grade and Under-17 Premierships.  We now truly believe we can compete with and beat our rivals from more populous areas of the north west.

In recent years the club has heavily promoted its young players, reaping dividends in 2010/11 as the 1st Grade team which played in the Semi-Finals boasted four teenagers, who also happened to be among the team's better players for the season.  This is a path LCC will continue to move down.
