LCC Announces Coaching Panel for 2011/12

Latrobe Cricket Club is pleased to announce the Coaching Panel for the 2011/12 Cricket North West season. Shane Wootton, Paul Dickson and Stephen French will all share responsibility for coaching the senior playing group (1st and 2nd Grade) and assisting junior team coaches.

Wootton enters his fourth season at Latrobe, where he has been passionate about promoting the talented youth of the club. He is also big on rewarding loyalty and hard work. This focus paid off last season with 1st Grade reaching the Semi-Finals.

Dickson will be serving his third season as a coach, and having gained his Level 2 Accreditation has really provided our players with some top-quality training activities in the last 12 months. Look for this to continue this season.

French enters his second season on the coaching panel, having been a long-time player. He is a positive, popular figure with a competitive spirit and in the last half of last season really settled into a constructive role helping players with their mental approach.

All three work well together, and will be looking to continue the good work they were able to do in the second half of last season. Now they know each other's strengths and how they can best help our players, they are dead keen to get started.

Congratulations to Shane, Paul and Stephen on their appointments. Further announcements relating to coaching, leadership and pre-season training will be made shortly.

01 Jul 2011 : Simonds Gets Tigers Rookie Contract!!!
Simonds Gets Tigers Rookie Contract!!!The following story appeared in today's edition of The Advocate.

by Kye White

DEVONPORT'S Marc Simonds will join fellow Coaster Tom Triffitt in the 2011-12 Tasmanian Tigers squad after both received contracts from the Tigers yesterday.

Seventeen-year-old leg spinner Marc was one of five players to receive a rookie contract, while wicketkeeper-batsman Triffitt - on the back of some impressive performances last season - was elevated from last year's rookie list to a full contract.

For Marc, it is a dream come true.

"I am pretty stoked," Marc said last night.

"I wasn't expecting it, sitting in the gym with my headphones in, my phone rang and it was one of the selectors and he said you've got a rookie contract."

Marc said he walked straight out of the gym in a mixture of excitement and disbelief.

Tigers captain George Bailey has already reached out to Marc and welcomed him to the Tasmanian side.

"It is just going to be great, guys there like Tim Paine who have played Test cricket, it's just going to be an amazing experience," Marc said.

"Hopefully in a few years that will be me."

At a time when spinners are extremely valuable, Tassie has two under contract with Cricket Australia.

Tigers coach Tim Coyle is happy to have someone of Marc's ability now in the system.

"I think it is a good time to introduce Marc to the program," Coyle said.

"We have two Australian spinners (Jason Krejza and Xavier Doherty), both guys that have played Test and one-day cricket. They are great guys for him to be around and learn from."

Naturally Marc's Cricket North West club, Latrobe, is ecstatic to see a young player rise through its youth system and end up with the Tigers.

"It is massive news," Latrobe first grade coach Shane Wootton said last night.

"It is a reward for all the hard work he has put in."

Wootton said when he arrived at the club three years ago Marc, along with fellow young gun Trent Keep, had very bright futures.

"They stood out head and shoulders," Wootton said.

"Marc's great (bowling) strength is absolute unerring control, and he can rip it. It's only just begun for him now."

Note: Congratulations to Marc on an amazing achievement.  Now the real hard work begins! Everyone at LCC is extremely proud of his efforts, and wishes him the best of luck.

11 Jun 2011 : It Keeps Getting Better for Trent
It Keeps Getting Better for TrentAfter enjoying the most successful season of his cricket career so far, things just keep getting better for Latrobe Cricket Club teen sensation Trent Keep.

Having won the club and Cricket North West batting averages, along with selection in the CNW All-Star Team and Tasmanian Under-17/Under-19 teams, 17-year-old Trent has received two more exciting opportunities recently.

Firstly, Trent has earned the Lords Taverners Award for Tasmania, recognising him as the best performed cricketer aged 15-19 for the past season.  This award entitles Trent to $1000, to be spent on cricket-related expenses, and a Kookaburra cricket kit.  He will receive the award at Wrest Point Hotel and Casino on July 6 as part of a gala event coinciding with ABC's Ron Barassi Debate.

In addition, Trent has also received a Kerry Packer Foundation Scholarship, worth $6000 over a 12-month period.  This scholarship aims to support talented cricketers who would benefit from financial support to take them to the next level.

Trent also has the opportunity to travel to Delhi as part of an ACT-Tasmania Development team to experience cricket on the subcontinent, with thanks to the Power Education Cricket Mentoring Program.  This is a very prestigious program with opportunities extended only to those with the potential to make a career from cricket.

It is fantastic to see Trent being rewarded for all of his hard work over the last few years.  With an imminent move to play cricket in Hobart with South Hobart-Sandy Bay (providing greater access to Cricket Tasmania specialist coaches) the scholarship funds will come in handy!

Everyone at Latrobe Cricket Club is thrilled to hear of Trent's successes and rest assured they won't be the last for this talented, determined cricketer.  Well done mate!
