PRIMARY SCHOOL CRICKET

Latrobe Cricket Club, through its Latrobe Junior Cricket Association, has been running a primary school cricket competition for over 20 years, aimed at providing the opportunity for all children to experience the joy of playing cricket.

The club runs a roster for children in Grades 3 and 4, plus another roster for children in Grades 5 and 6.  Games are played on Wednesday evenings from 4.30pm to 7.00pm in November, December, February and March, at venues in and around Latrobe Recreation Ground.

Games are played in a 20-over format, with each child getting the chance to bat and bowl.  All cricket gear is available to players but players are encouraged to use their own cricket gear if they have it. We also encourage a dress code of white shirt and white trousers/shorts to be worn for games.

The roster is designed to be a progression from IN2 Cricket, and a pathway to playing Under-13 cricket for Latrobe.  The roster is open to boys and girls – with the main focus on developing skills and having fun.

Latrobe Cricket Club volunteers deliver two coaching clinics through the season (pre- and post-Christmas), with children participating in a minimum of 10 games throughout the season.

Primary school cricket cannot run without parental support, and upon registration of children parents are asked to nominate if they can assist with umpiring, scoring or team management duties.

Registration costs $30, which covers equipment, player trophies/certificates and the end-of-season barbecue.

The club holds a junior cricket registration evening in October.  Details will be published in The Advocate and your child’s school newsletter closer to the date.
