Latrobe Cricket Club - Life Members

LATROBE CRICKET CLUB

LIFE MEMBERS

Life membership of Latrobe Cricket Club is a hard thing to come by.  To qualify you must have contributed to our club for at least 10 consecutive years.  Many people have qualified for life membership but there is only a select group of people in our 50 years of involvement in the NWTCA that have received it.  We profile them below:

Rex Punshon: Rex was the first captain of Latrobe's A-Grade team and enjoyed a distinguished playing career with the club.  He was a passionate Latrobe person and President of the club for six years, as well as club patron for a long time also.  He loved parking on the Percival Street side of Latrobe Rec and watching matches in his later years.

A. Burke: Information is being sought at this time.

Mrs J. Bryan: Information is being sought at this time.

Michael Parker: Michael Parker was a fantastic contributor to Latrobe Cricket Club.  In a long and distinguised A-Grade career he made 2813 A-Grade runs as a batsman and as a wicket-keeper made 201 dismissals.  He was the mainstay of our A-Grade side for a long time.  In a Legends Match a few years ago he showed his class to a new generation of Latrobe cricketers.

William "Bill" Fraser: Bill is a Latrobe person through and through.  A former A-Grade player and A-Reserve captain, Bill has maintained an active role within LCC for close to 40 years.  Bill has previously been President for six years, Treasurer and a member of the LCC and NWTCA committee for decades.  He still attends matches at Latrobe Rec now, and is equally happy watching 1st, 2nd or 3rd Grade.  He is a real asset to our club.

Mrs Gaye Fraser: Gaye is the wife of fellow Life Member Bill Fraser.  She was a stalwart of the club, devoting countless hours to looking after the players appetites at lunch and tea time on match days.  Her monumental efforts in the kitchen and around the club were justifiably rewarded with Life Membership.

Brendan Boyles: A current playing member of our A-Grade team, Brendan has been around our club since he was a raw-boned teenager.  His A-Grade record is second to none, having claimed the A-Grade bowling average on four occasions and taking in excess of 200 wickets.  A battle with arthritis cost him the best part of his twenties, yet he stayed around our club, helping players in 3rd and 2nd grade to improve.  It is fitting that he now gets the opportunity to the mix it with the best back up in A-Grade, and to top it off, has played in back-to-back A-Reserve Premierships.

Alan Broomhall: "Boofa" as he is affectionately known is a former A-Grade player with our club and is an avid sports fan.  He made a big contribution as our inaugural 3rd Grade Captain, helping to develop a new breed of young cricketers, and off the field he was Secretary of the club for 17 years, working tirelessly to secure sponsorship.  He is also known for his work with the NTFL.

Mrs Colleen Nicolle: Colleen has had a big impact on Latrobe Cricket Club.  Her three sons all played for the club and she played an active role as well, acting as a cleaner of the club rooms and working tirelessly in the kitchen for many many years.  Colleen was not a great fan of the limelight, but she went about her business with a smile on her face and without her the club would not have been the same.

Robert "Bob" Dickson: Bob is a former A-Grade player at our club and has put a lot back in.  The club can thank him for the many young players he attracted to the club who participated in the Latrobe Junior Competition that he ran for many years.  Most A-Grade players from the last 10 years have played in that competition and gotten to know Bob well.  He is respected for the effort he puts in, nothing is too much trouble.  Bob was President of our club for four years and has been Treasurer in recent years.  He is a true Latrobe person.

Ray Read: Ray is a former A-Grade player at our club and his grandson and nephew have also played at the club.  Ray has been a successful Junior Coach at the club, bringing many young players into the fold and putting countless hours in to improve their cricket.  In recent years Ray has taken on the role of curator, producing quality playing and training wickets renowned throughout the NWTCA.  The club is indebted to Ray for the countless hours he has put in, all to benefit the players and members of LCC.

Stewart Ashdown: Stewart is a former A-Grade player with the club and has a great record in the lower grades as a player and leader.  He was a hard-hitting middle order batsman and seam bowler who used his great height to get his deliveries to rise sharply.  Stewart is a true club person, taking on roles from President to 2nd and 3rd Grade Captaincy, and recently acted as Club Coach, helping A-Grade to its second premiership in 2005/06.  He has achieved success in all roles and the club owes a lot to him.

Darren Nicolle: "Flash" is a former A-Reserve Premiership player with the club and has often filled in as a substitute in recent years, even hitting the winning runs from the last ball of an A-Reserve match!  Darren has given 17-years of service as bar manager, an all encompassing role that has seen him almost single-handedly run the bar, purchase stock, clean the clubrooms as well as a myriad of other roles behind the scenes.  The great clubroom facilities we have now are largely due to Darren's great work.  If we were to pay Darren for all the work he currently does for the club for free we would be in some serious debt! He is a great man, a Latrobe person to the core and we are very thankful for his involvement.
