JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT
Latrobe Cricket Club invests heavily in its Junior Development program. It is a vital component of Latrobe having prolonged success (and participation) in Cricket North West. Our juniors are our future!
Junior Development focuses on:
- Development of basic skills
- Enjoyment
- Participation
- Application of skills to games
- Progression to higher grades
- Acceptance of club culture
Pathway
Talented young players have great opportunities here at Latrobe. We aim to play Under-19 players in our 1st Grade and 2nd Grade teams so as to ensure these players stay at the club and can develop with some experienced players around them. Recent examples are:
Ryan Keep (age 20) - 1st Grade Player 306, A-Grade and A-Reserve Premiership Player, Current A-Grade Captain.
Matt Clarke (age 20) - 1st Grade Player 316 & A-Reserve Premiership Player.
Callan Morse (age 20) - 1st Grade Player 312, 1st Grade Premiership Player, LCC 1st Grade Batting Average, TAS Imparja Cup & Under-Age Representative.
Trent Keep (age 17) - 1st Grade Player 323 , TAS Under-15/17/19 Rep, Cricket North West 1st Grade Batting Award 2010/11.
Marc Simonds (age 17) - 1st Grade Player 324, TAS Under-15/17/19 Rep, Australian Under-19 Rep, Tasmanian Tigers Rookie contract.
Josh Squibb (age 16) - 1st Grade Player 327, NW Under-17 Squad, 1st Grade Semi-Final team 2010/11.
Brayden Butler (age 15) - 1st Grade Player 328, NW Under-15 Representative, Under-17's Bowling Average, 2nd Grade Grand Final Player 2009-10
Our Junior Development program is made up of the following components:
1. Entry Level (Skill Development) - This level is overseen by IN2 Cricket Co-ordinator Matt Clarke and A-Grade players, with organisation of the various rosters done by Grant Goss. Players are encouraged to have a lot of fun while learning new skills in a safe environment.
Milo "In-2-Cricket" Program for boys and girls aged 5-8:
2011/12 dates to be announced.
Focus on skill development, enjoyment and mini-games.
Cost: $55 (all participants receive an IN2 Cricket Kit containing t-shirt, hat, bat, ball and more)

Latrobe and Districts Primary School Twenty/20 Roster (Grades 3/4 & 5/6):
2011/12 dates to be announced.
Focus on participation in games in an inclusive environment for boys and girls aged 9-12.
Cost: $35

2. Skill Consolidation and Game Awareness - This level includes our Under-13, Under-15 and Under-17 teams, along with Girl's/Women's and High School cricket. Players at this level are encouraged to perform their role within a team, expand their range of skills and fine-tune their techniques.

Under-17 team - participating in a coastal roster.
Under-15 team - participating in a coastal roster.
Under-13 team - participating in a coastal roster.
Girls/Women's cricket - format to be determined.
High School team - participating in a roster in and around Latrobe and Devonport.
Cost: $70 (Under-17's), $50 (Under-15's & Under-13's), $TBA (High School & Girl's/Women's cricket).

3. Progression to Senior Cricket - This level is overseen by LCC Senior Coaches Shane Wootton and Paul Dickson, along with Assistant Coach Stephen French. They are supported by grade captains and senior club members. Players at this level spend a lot of time on the mental aspects of the game and are stimulated through game-sense activities and challenges.
North-West and Tasmanian teams - entering the Tasmanian talent pathway.
1st Grade - participating in a coastal roster and One-day games against Launceston-based teams.
2nd Grade - participating in a coastal roster.
Marc Simonds' recent selection in the Australian Under-19 team and being awarded a Tasmanian Tigers Rookie contract shows that we are doing a lot of things right here at Latrobe. With the structure provided by Latrobe Cricket Club, and a lot of hard work, players can take their cricket to the next level and beyond.
