Latrobe Cricket Club - Club Facilities
LATROBE CRICKET CLUB
CLUB FACILITIES
Latrobe Cricket Club has worked extremely hard to improve the training facilities for our players. Led by an enthusiastic committee and a dedicated curator in Ray Read, Latrobe's players now have every opportunity to develop their games. The significant thing about our training facilities is that the club has raised the money and performed all of the work to bring these up to their current high standard.
We have two outdoor synthetic nets, used for lower grade training and senior group training when there has been inclement weather. These nets are also open to all community members to use.
We also have outdoor turf training wickets, thanks to the outstanding work of curator Ray Read. On most occasions we have two of these up and going at any particular time, greatly improving the batting of our A-Grade and A-Reserve teams in particular. Recently we have put up some netting between these wickets and further work is to be done to ensure we have a good facility.
Additionally, for centre wicket training we also have a synthetic and a turf wicket in the centre of our training ground, located behind the main grandstand at Latrobe Recreation Ground. These wickets are used for game simulation, particularly early in the season.
The best investment in recent years has been the conversion of an old storage facility into the Latrobe Cricket Club Indoor Centre. In late 2002 the LCC Committee, led by Bob Dickson, Bill Fraser and Peter Bonney sought and successfully gained funding to purchase carpet, netting and lights from a disused Indoor Cricket Centre. With a lot of time and effort by committee members and players the storage shed was converted into our Indoor Centre, and it provides us with a great facility to use for pre-season training, wet weather practice and individual coaching. There are three nets available for use, two with full-length run-ups. Peter Bonney is also to be thanked for his donation of a bowling machine to the club, which has been used by many players and is a great coaching tool. The club would also like to thank Lockett & Reeves Tyres 4U, for the sponsorship that allowed us to finish the Indoor Centre. Other clubs and organisations can hire the Indoor Centre at a rate of $50 per hour, please contact the club (latrobedemons@gmail.com) or ring Darren Nicolle (0408262971) to make a booking.
The club plays at Latrobe Recreation Ground, the host of the Northern Tasmanian Football League (NTFL) Grand Final, in Gilbert Street, Latrobe. We share it with the Latrobe Football Club and the Latrobe Bicycle Race Club, which hosts its annual carnival on Boxing Day each year. Our clubrooms are located off Last Street, above the football club, and has an excellent viewing area for watching games, toilets, memorabilia, kitchen and bar facilities. The club rooms can be booked for private functions with a manned bar and a very competitive room rental rate. To make a booking contact latrobedemons@gmail.com or call Darren Nicolle on 0408262971.
Our centre square is in excellent condition, and we play games for all grades on it. Since being re-laid in 2003 the centre square has continued to improve, and despite a lot of wear and tear during the football season, curator Ray Read manages to prepare wickets that give batsmen and bowlers an equal opportunity. Generally our wickets have a bit of life early in the day and then settle down to be good batting wickets. We were recognised last year by hosting an A-Grade Semi-Final and regularly host A-Reserve finals.
Our club firmly believes that we have facilities the equal of any other club in the competition. We have a beautiful home ground, excellent training facilities and good camaraderie, all of the ingredients necessary for sustained success in Cricket North-West.
