Burnie-Yeoman v LATROBE CRICKET CLUB Under-17's on Sun 26 Oct 2008 at 10.00am
LATROBE CRICKET CLUB Won by 10 wickets
Match report
With a change of venue the night before to Les Clark Oval, the curator struggled to get a good looking pitch up. However with the prospect of playing on the biggest greentop ever seen the toss was won by Latrobe who elected to bowl. The match started off well for Burnie-Yeoman who hit an early boundary off the bowling of Jamie Aherne. However, after the first few overs trouble struck for the Emus with the start of a deadly spell of bowling from opening bowler Zach Weeks. Picking up the first wicket of the match he finished with all round figures of 5-15 off 8 overs, bowling consistent lines and lengths throughout the innings. After the fall of the first wicket the wickets came reguarly with Josh Squibb (2-11) and Luke Bryan (2-9)joining in on the wickets. Every bowler was able to operate consistently on what turned out to be quite a bouncy wicket and with sharp catching in the field Latrobe had Burnie-Yeoman struggling at 83 all out.
Latrobe started their innings off slowly and cautiously, with steady openers Brandon Goss and Thomas Reeves lasting until the first drinks break. After the break Reeves was trapped LBW from some tidy bowling, allowing Marc Simmonds to come in and take to the bowling, hitting the ball hard and straight. Simonds hit the rope 4 times on his way to a match winning 28 not out with the backing of Brandon Goss(35 not out), who worked the ball around cleverly in an encouraging innings. Latrobe cruised to victory for the loss of only one wicket in an excellent performance.
