Sheffield v LATROBE CRICKET CLUB Under-17's on Sun 30 Nov 2008 at 10.00am
LATROBE CRICKET CLUB Won by 8 wickets
Match report
Latrobe needed to maintain the momentum it gained from its last three victories with a good performance against Sheffield at Sheffield. The Mountaineers elected to bat first and from the outset this proved to be a bad decision. Jamie Aherne showed he was closer to finding his best form, taking 4-21 with the new ball in a good captain's display. Josh Squibb also performed well in the middle overs, bowling a good line and length and showing why he could be regarded already as the big improver of the year, taking 2-9 from five overs. With Sheffield in big trouble, off spinners Tristan Weeks (1-24)and Luke Bryan (1-5) finished off the job, helping dismiss the Mountaineers for only 117.
In reply the Demons started well, with Jamie Aherne and Thomas Reeves both making double figures before Aherne was out caught for 16. Reeves then combined with Brandon Goss and the pair batted steadily to ensure the Demons passed the total without incident. In a welcome return to form the technically correct Reeves made 39, while developing allrounder Goss made 45 not out, continuing his good form with the bat this year. The Demons finished at 2-126, securing the win and ensuring that six rounds in, they had not yet been bowled out.
