Shane Wootton Member profile

Coach : Shane Wootton

Woot is a member of Sheffield Cricket Club's Team of the Half-Century, a former CNW Representative Team Coach and CNW Board Member. A highly-competitive former all-rounder with the Mountaineers, Wootton enters his second year at the helm of Latrobe Cricket Club. Last season he was able to unearth some new A-Grade players and no doubt will be looking for the club to make its mark with the same steely resolve he was known for throughout his career.
David Squibb Member profile

Captain : David Squibb

RH Batsman, RA Medium. LCC Career Stats: 139 matches, 67 catches. 4739 runs @ 33.61, HS 134. 94 wickets @ 20.17, BB 5-17. It would be fair to say that Squibby is idolised by a great majority of players at Latrobe Cricket Club for the way that he approaches his game, his even temperament, ability and sense of humour. He is our leading A-Grade run-scorer and in the last few seasons has been a linchpin in 2nd Grade. His stature and range of strokes often rattle opposition bowlers, and with the ball he possesses a good out-swinger and a great slower delivery. Once again this season David will work on developing another batch of young cricketers to reach A-Grade status.
Nathan Dennis Member profile

Vice Captain : Nathan Dennis

RH Batsman, RA Medium-Fast. LCC Career Stats: 127 matches, 51 catches. 593 runs @ 9.12, HS 33. 221 wickets @ 17.12, BB 5-12. Dennis is a long-time player at the club and is a great competitor. At the age of 19 he was involved in a work accident that left him with a permanent disability, yet he worked his way back to playing 1st and 2nd Grade cricket. In the last two seasons Dennis has battled weight issues (i.e. being a big fatty!) but since the end of last season has dropped over 30 kilograms and is ready to once again go after the opposition batsmen. A tireless medium-fast bowler and dogged lower-order batsman, Dennis will once again work on helping develop the club's younger players while leading by example.

Jamie Aherne Member profile Jamie Aherne
RH Batsman, RA Fast-Medium.

LCC Career Stats: 54 matches, 17 catches.
485 runs @ 14.70, HS 57.
48 wickets @ 18.62, BB 4-18.

Jamie is an emerging all-rounder who took all before him in the Junior Colts competition last year, winning the club's batting and bowling awards. He bowls with good pace and possesses a good bouncer, while when batting his technique is improving all the time to compliment his range of attacking strokes. As an A-Reserve Premiership player and A-Grade debutant in the last two seasons, expect Aherne to take another step forward this season.
Tony Aherne Member profile Tony Aherne
RH Batsman, RA Medium-Fast. LCC Career Stats: 36 matches, 9 catches. 384 runs @ 13.71, HS 71*. 29 wickets @ 24.48, BB 3-27. Tony is a gifted all-rounder who was starved of opportunities last season but, as Sunday League Bowling award (and nearly Batting award) winner in 2007/08, he could not cement a regular place in the batting or bowling line-ups. Tony is a medium-pace bowler who can get the ball to rise off a good length, and with the bat hits the ball straight and hard. He also has a very strong throwing arm and batsmen need to be wary. The key to Tony having a positive season in 2009/10 will be concentration on improving his consistency and technique, along with acting on the advice of his coaches. Should he do this, Tony has a bright future.
Michael Bishop Member profile Michael Bishop
LH Batsman, LA Medium.

LCC Career Stats: 56 matches, 22 catches. 842 runs @ 23.39, HS 216.  103 wickets @ 18.43, BB 6-21.

Bish returns to the club this year after missing most of last season due to a change in his work circumstances, and will play a vital all-round role for the club. Having played a handful of games in A-Grade as a bowler, Bishop developed into a top-order batsman and new ball bowler in A-Reserve from 2006-2007. He was a member of back-to-back A-Reserve Premierships, striking a club record 216 in the Grand Final (not bad for his first century!). As a bowler he swings the ball both ways and should really now concentrate on establishing himself as a top A-Grade cricketer.
Travis Butler Member profile Travis Butler
RH Batsman, RA Medium-Fast. LCC Career Stats: 13 matches, 4 catches. 64 runs @ 5.33, HS 25. 12 wickets @ 27.50, BB 3-13. Travis returns to Latrobe for the first time since playing with us in Junior Colts.  He is a positive, attacking top and middle order batsman and thoughtful bowler who has the ability to swing the ball around.  Travis has worked very hard on his game and has been one of the best performed at pre-season training. Latrobe Cricket Club is ecstatic to have Travis back at the club and can see him playing an important role as an all-round talent.
Kodie Clarke Member profile Kodie Clarke
RH Batsman, RA Medium. LCC Career Stats: 60 matches, 13 catches. 289 runs @ 6.72, HS 25. 34 wickets @ 13.79, BB 5-15. Kodie was a massive improver last season, going from a fringe Sunday League player to performing well in several 2nd Grade games. He is a deceptive medium-pacer, able to move the ball around and was particularly effective as a "death" bowler in one-day matches. With the bat Kodie's technique and footwork continues to improve, and he made his highest score in the Sunday League Grand Final of last season. With greater self-belief Kodie should perform even better this season and cement a place in the 2nd Grad side.
Matt Clarke Member profile Matt Clarke
RH Batsman, Wicket-Keeper. LCC Career Stats: 98 matches, 77 catches, 6 stumpings. 1560 runs @ 18.14, HS 97. 14 wickets @ 27.50, BB 4-40. Clarke has played plenty of cricket for someone who is still only 19. He is a talented top/middle-order batsman able to play shots on either side of the wicket and is a great judge of a quick single. A fantastic athlete, Clarke is equally as comfortable in the field as he is behind the stumps. A young player with a great feel for the game, Clarke is a future leader at Latrobe and will be looking to build on the improved form with the bat that he demonstrated at the end of last season.
Josh Dennis Member profile Josh Dennis
LH Batsman, RA Wrist Spin. LCC Career Stats: 48 matches, 16 catches. 641 runs @ 16.02, HS 64 not out. 33 wickets @ 18.06, BB 4-43. Dennis has been around a long time, but has been restricted by work and family commitments on occasions. In the run of games that he had in the second half of last season he showed he was certainly a quality batsman, making half-centuries in 2nd Grade and averaging 51 in 1st Grade. He is an attacking left-hand middle order batsman who is now much tighter defensively and able to bat to the situation. His wrist-spin is also quite handy and he has a great set of hands in the slips cordon. Should Dennis have a full season this year big things are expected of him.
Selwyn Deverell Member profile Selwyn Deverell
RH Batsman, RA Fast-Medium. Selwyn has recently joined the club.  As an experienced cricketer we welcome him with open arms and wish him well for the season.
Ben Dick Member profile Ben Dick
RH Batsman, Wicket-Keeper. LCC Career Stats: 54 matches, 41 catches, 6 stumpings. 1211 runs @ 21.62, HS 86. Dicky is a tall, powerful batsman with a wide range of attacking strokes, while also an accomplished keeper. He really started to strike some good form in the last half of last season, particularly in Sunday League. Unfortunately he couldn't compile a big score in 2nd Grade, finding ways to get out even though he looked in good touch. Dicky is now an experienced player with the club and is looked up to by his team-mates because of his community involvement and friendly nature. There is no doubt Dicky will kick on this year and look to cement a strong 2nd Grade position.
Josh Gadsby Member profile Josh Gadsby
RH Batsman, RA Off Spin. LCC Career Stats: 125 matches, 40 catches. 1225 runs @ 9.57, HS 63 not out. 22 wickets @ 31.64, BB 4-22. After the elation of performing well in an A-Reserve Premiership season in 2007/08, Gadsby had an up and down season in 2008/09. On occasions he struck the ball very well, making a career-best 63 not out in Sunday League and leading this team to the Grand Final. Too often though he made a start and got out due to a rush of blood. Gadsby has worked incredibly hard on his game and now has the tools to be an effective turf cricketer, it is up to him to play to his strengths and grind out some big innings. An in-form Gadsby is an important cog in the 2nd Grade team, and good performances there could lead to higher honours.
Brandon Goss Member profile Brandon Goss
RH Batsman, RA Medium.

LCC Career Stats: 37 matches, 22 catches.
589 runs @ 18.41, HS 50 not out.
28 wickets @ 15.46, BB 4-13.

Gossy has spent a couple of seasons in the Junior Colts team and established himself as a highly accomplished all-rounder. He has always had attacking flair as a batsman, but last season really started to tighten up defensively and is increasingly difficult to dismiss. With the ball Gossy is a consistent medium-pacer and can be relied upon to do a job for his captain. Now too old for Junior Colts, the challenge this year is for Goss to break into a strong 2nd Grade team and make the most of his opportunities. I'm backing this young man to be a big improver this season.
Colin Lamont Member profile Colin Lamont
LH Batsman, RA Off Spin. LCC Career Stats: 43 matches, 6 catches. 1321 runs @ 27.52, HS 128. 2 wickets @ 25.50, BB 2-41. Colin is back at the club this season after spending the past two seasons at MVCA club East Devonport Devils. He brings with him a wealth of experience as a former TCA player, A-Grade Premiership player and batting award winner at Latrobe. His class, aggression and outright talent at the top of the order could be just the tonic for a Demons batting line-up that struggled for long periods last season.
Matthew Nicolle Member profile Matthew Nicolle
LH Batsman, RA Slow-Medium. LCC Career Stats: 88 matches, 76 catches, 14 stumpings. 1364 runs @ 17.27, HS 78. 7 wickets @ 23.57, BB 2-22. Foo returned to the field last season after nearly a decade away and was an important player in the middle and late-season improvements in the club's batting. A determined batsman who puts great pride in his wicket, Nicolle worked well with his younger team-mates and was a part of several key partnerships. If you asked Foo he would say he was under-bowled, but a man of his immense talent with the ball is best used as a partnership-breaker. This season Nicolle will be looking to be a rock in the batting line-up and once again set the example for his younger team-mates.
Matt Perry Member profile Matt Perry
RH Batsman, RA Off-Spin. LCC Career Stats: 15 matches, 6 catches. 143 runs @ 15.89, HS 57. 11 wickets @ 18.64, BB 4-28. Perry settled in well at Latrobe in his first season, earning games in A-Grade in the one-day series and doing his best despite limited opportunities. In 2nd Grade he continued to develop his game, with a great feel for tempo when bowling, changing his flight and variations to suit the situation. It is with the bat that he really emerged, making a half-century and developing the application that should see him emerge as a good all-round talent with the club this year and beyond.
Scott Read Member profile Scott Read
LH Batsman; Wicket-Keeper. LCC Career Stats: 58 matches, 56 catches, 14 stumpings.  913 runs @ 14.27, HS 96.  1 wicket @ 16.00, BB 1-10.

Scooter returns to Latrobe this season having returned to the area after working in Hobart for two years.  He is an aggressive top-order batsman known to punish anything short or wide, and an excellent keeper, particularly when standing up to the stumps.  There is no doubt Scooter will help to stabilise the top order in 2nd Grade, and may even push for 1st Grade honours again.
Marc Simonds Member profile Marc Simonds
RH Batsman, RA Leg Spin. LCC Career Stats: 31 matches, 8 catches. 212 runs @ 11.73, HS 39. 38 wickets @ 24.82, BB 6-17. Simonds has completed two seasons at Latrobe, already winning a 2nd Grade Premiership and a Most Improved award at the club. This exciting leg-spinner got a taste of A-Grade cricket last year, acquitting himself well and taking two wickets. Marc is an attacking bowler, not afraid to toss the ball up and spin it hard. To take the next step with the ball he must work on his groupings, but there is a huge up-side to this young man. With the bat he is dangerous against anything on his pads, and with further work on his technique and application will be a fine player. A definite player to watch.
Josh Squibb Member profile Josh Squibb
RH Batsman, RA Fast-Medium. LCC Career Stats: 42 matches, 7 catches. 158 runs @ 6.58, HS 24. 23 wickets @ 25.09, BB 3-25. I don't mean to brag but this time last year I tipped Josh to be the big improver of the season, and I was right! Squibb (son of David) emerged as new-ball bowler and hard-hitting lower-order batsman in 2nd Grade, his good performances earning him a place in 2nd Grade's Semi-Final team. A tall young man, Squibb regularly hits the seam, able to get the ball to jump and cut batsmen in half with prodigious swing. As he fills out Josh will get more pace and consistency from his action - batsmen beware! With application to following the advice of his coaches and further improving his technique with bat and ball Josh has another good year ahead.
Zac Weeks Member profile Zac Weeks
RH Batsman, RA Medium-Fast. LCC Career Stats: 25 matches, 10 catches. 334 runs @ 22.27, HS 58. 32 wickets @ 13.16, BB 5-12. Weeksy has been a stand-out performer in our Junior Colts team for the past two seasons. He was unlucky to miss out on the Tasmanian Under-15 team last season but made up for that by taking two five-wicket hauls in Junior Colts. This aggressive young batsman and seam bowler already shows leadership qualities and has stated publicly he wants to improve his batting technique after an up and down season with the bat. I'm backing Weeks to put in the hard yards during the pre-season and many at the club are excited for him to take the next step and play regular turf cricket.
