LATROBE CRICKET CLUB team
Junior Colts/4ths
Coach :
Nigel Squibb
Nigel is a popular figure in the community as a former chef and recently completed a stint as General Manager of TASFRESH. He is a hard-working, innovative and driven man who will be a great role-model for our Junior Colts players. The father of Jesse, Nigel takes a more hands-on role with the club this year as Junior Colts coach, and there is no doubt he will work on giving every player the best opportunity to enjoy and succeed in their cricket.
Captain :
Zac Weeks
RH Batsman, RA Medium-Fast. LCC Career Stats: 25 matches, 10 catches. 334 runs @ 22.27, HS 58. 32 wickets @ 13.16, BB 5-12. Weeksy has been a stand-out performer in our Junior Colts team for the past two seasons. He was unlucky to miss out on the Tasmanian Under-15 team last season but made up for that by taking two five-wicket hauls in Junior Colts. This aggressive young batsman and seam bowler already shows leadership qualities and has stated publicly he wants to improve his batting technique after an up and down season with the bat. I'm backing Weeks to put in the hard yards during the pre-season and many at the club are excited for him to take the next step and play regular turf cricket.
Vice Captain :
Luc Keep
RH Batsman, Wicket-Keeper. LCC Career Stats: 28 matches, 10 catches, 9 stumpings. 144 runs @ 12.00, HS 37 not out. 1 wicket @ 47.00, BB 1-42. Lugs is another player who seems to have been around for a long time while still only 13. Last season he was a regular in the Junior Colts team, doing a great job as wicket-keeper and impressing all with his patience with the bat. He made his top score of 37 not out to help secure a win for the team in a crucial match which says a fair bit about his make-up. While still being one of the younger members of the team, this confident, outgoing young man will be looked up to show his team-mates the way this season.
Players
Brody Anthony
Samuel Arrell
RH Batsman; RA Medium.
LCC Career Stats: 6 matches.
0 runs at 0.00, HS 0 not out.
1 wicket @ 17.00, BB 1-0.
Sam had a taste of Junior Colts cricket last season, showing he had some ability with the ball as a medium-pacer. He is naturally quite aggressive with the bat, but with greater time in the middle and training he will balance attack with defence. Sam should be looking to cement a regular place in the Junior Colts team this season.
A Barton
Lewis Beveridge
RH Batsman, RA Medium.
Lewis is new to the club having played High School cricket last season. We wish him well for 2009/10.
Anna Brain
RH Bat, RA Medium.
This is Anna's first taste of competitive cricket. We wish her well this season and trusts she enjoys taking on the boys!
Nathan Brain
RH Batsman, RA Medium-Fast. LCC Career Stats: 4 matches. 5 runs @ 5.00, HS 3 not out. 4 wickets @ 12.25, BB 2-16. Nathan was recruited to the Junior Colts team having played well in the High School competition. He is a tall medium-fast bowler who hits the pitch hard and generally bowls a consistent line and length. I would expect Nathan to be a regular new-ball bowler in the Junior Colts team this year and should be aiming to take 15-20 wickets.
Brayden Butler
RH Batsman; RA Medium. LCC Career Stats: 2 matches. 4 runs at 4.00, HS 4. 0 wickets @ 0.00, BB 0-6. Brayden had a taste of Junior Colts cricket in the final few rounds of last season's competition and will be looking to play further matches in 2009/10. He has performed quite well as an all-rounder in High School cricket so should be looking to take the next step this year.
Daniel Costello
RH Batsman, RA Medium. Daniel is stepping up from High School cricket this season. We wish him well for 2009/10.
William Craigie
RH Batsman; RA Slow-Medium.
William is vying for Junior Colts selection this season after winning the Most Improved award for the High School competition in 2008-09. Should he continue to work hard he will be rewarded. Good luck William!
Layken Farrugia
RH Batsman; RA Medium.
Latrobe Cricket Club welcomes Layken, who has joined our club this year. Good luck mate!
Cameron Foster
RH Batsman. LCC Career Stats: 4 matches, 1 catch. 1 run @ 0.00, HS 1 not out. 0 wickets @ 0.00, BB 0-6. Cameron has played a handful of Junior Colts matches without a real opportunity to demonstrate his talents. Having played High School cricket for a while now the next logical step for this young batsman to take is to try his hand at regular Junior Colts cricket.
Trent Keep
RH Batsman, Wicket-Keeper. LCC Career Stats: 81 matches, 42 catches, 10 stumpings. 846 runs @ 18.00, HS 72 not out. 14 wickets @ 21.43, BB 2-25. Keep has been around LCC for a long time and has impressed everyone with his commitment to improvement. Last season he made his A-Grade debut, impressing everyone with how quickly he adjusted to A-Grade cricket, and how difficult he was to dismiss! Trent shared the Most Improved award with best mate Marc Simonds, and this former 2nd Grade Premiership player must be aiming to play a full season of A-Grade cricket in 2009/10 as a keeper-batsman.
Rory Macqueen
RH Batsman; RA Medium.
Rory is a new player for the club, having played High School cricket last season. This year he is keen to step up to Junior Colts. We wish him well.
Alex Marshall
Latrobe Cricket Club welcomes Alex, who is new to our club this year. Good luck mate!
Jordan Marshall
Latrobe Cricket Club welcomes Jordan, who is new to our club this year. Good luck mate!
Marc Simonds
RH Batsman, RA Leg Spin. LCC Career Stats: 31 matches, 8 catches. 212 runs @ 11.73, HS 39. 38 wickets @ 24.82, BB 6-17. Simonds has completed two seasons at Latrobe, already winning a 2nd Grade Premiership and a Most Improved award at the club. This exciting leg-spinner got a taste of A-Grade cricket last year, acquitting himself well and taking two wickets. Marc is an attacking bowler, not afraid to toss the ball up and spin it hard. To take the next step with the ball he must work on his groupings, but there is a huge up-side to this young man. With the bat he is dangerous against anything on his pads, and with further work on his technique and application will be a fine player. A definite player to watch.
Jesse Squibb
RH Batsman, RA Offspin. LCC Career Stats: 11 matches, 5 catches. 86 runs @ 14.33, HS 46 not out. Jesse joined the club last season and when given the opportunity demonstrated his talent with the bat. Combining with Luc Keep, Jesse scored 46 not out to help the Junior Colts win a crucial match early in the season. Jesse has a good eye, and with further work on moving his feet in line with the ball he will score plenty of runs. As one of the older members of the team, Jesse may be able to send down a few of his accurate off-spinners to keep things tight through the middle overs. Jesse should be setting a target of 200+ runs this season.
Josh Squibb
RH Batsman, RA Fast-Medium. LCC Career Stats: 42 matches, 7 catches. 158 runs @ 6.58, HS 24. 23 wickets @ 25.09, BB 3-25. I don't mean to brag but this time last year I tipped Josh to be the big improver of the season, and I was right! Squibb (son of David) emerged as new-ball bowler and hard-hitting lower-order batsman in 2nd Grade, his good performances earning him a place in 2nd Grade's Semi-Final team. A tall young man, Squibb regularly hits the seam, able to get the ball to jump and cut batsmen in half with prodigious swing. As he fills out Josh will get more pace and consistency from his action - batsmen beware! With application to following the advice of his coaches and further improving his technique with bat and ball Josh has another good year ahead.
Sam Squibb
LH Batsman, RA Off-spin, Wicket-Keeper. LCC Career Stats: 30 matches, 6 catches, 1 stumping. 98 runs @ 5.76, HS 24. 3 wickets @ 13.00, BB 2-18. Despite being only 13, Squibb (son of David) has been around the club for a long time. He is a talented all-round cricketer, being a developing batsman, good wicket-keeper and accomplished fieldsman. With several players unavailable for 2nd Grade on occasions, he got a taste of 2nd Grade and quickly demonstrated he had no fear, getting in behind the ball when batting and playing his part in lower-order partnerships. He also got invaluable experience by playing in the Sunday League team regularly, including the Grand Final. Sam should now be looking to establish himself at the top of the order in Junior Colts/Sunday League, bat as often and for as long as he can, and surely this determined young man will have a great year.
